Fat quarters are such a great way to challenge your sewing skills and create anything from cushion covers to face masks!
For a relatively small piece of fabric, they are extremely versatile!
Each of our subscription boxes contain a pack of fat quarters to challenge you to try something new.
There are so many projects you can use them for so we will be sharing tutorials on our blog for a wide range of projects.
Next up is the super easy sewing machine dust cover. Not only is hit pretty, but takes no more than 10 minutes to put together!
All you need is 3 fat quarters, an iron and your sewing machine.
So, let's get started!
First, cut 4 2inch wide strips for the longest edge of a fat quarter. These will form your ties. Alternatively you could use ribbons or other scrap fabric you have lying around.
Fold each strip in half right sides together & sew along one end and the side. Turn the tubes inside out & press. Repeat for the remaining three. Now you should have 4 ties for your cover.
Pin each tie to the right side of one fat quarter, 6 inches from the edge, along the longest edge of your fat quarter. Do this for each of the 4 ties.
next take your contrasting fat quarter and pin it right sides together to the 1st fat quarter. Making sure the ties are tucked into to centre of the fabric. We only want to sew the ends of these!
Now just sew all the way around the edge, making sure to leave a gap to turn out the fabric.
Trim any excess fabric from the corners, turn out & press to create nice crisp edges.
Make sure to fold in the fabric of the opening and top stitch all the way around the fabric to close the gap and keep your edges nice and crisp.
Now all that is left is to put it over your machine! simply place over and tie the sides! And the best bit is that it is reversible!
Easy peasy!
