Scrap Busting Projects

Scrap Busting Projects

This month we are sponsoring a prize for @elleandthestitches instagram challenge - #RecyclingRemnants so we have put together a list of ideas for your entries.

I know I'm not the only one that has a box full of fabric scraps hidden away in the cupboard waiting to be used. Recycling fabric scraps can be really difficult depending on where you live and there isn't a huge amount of resources out there about recycling fabric properly.

So instead of just getting rid of your scraps, you can turn them into something wonderful. I have put together a list of ideas for even the smallest of scraps, and where to find the tutorials and patterns.

I can't to see what you make with all the remnants hiding away in your fabric stash!

Underwear

Making pants is such a great way to use up scraps of stretchy fabrics. They are really easy to whip together and don't use up too much fabric. Waves & Wild have a great free pattern for Speedy Pants

Make Up Bags

Make up bags are so handy and you can never have to many! You can make them in any size you like, so no matter how much fabric you have you'll have enough for a bag! All you need to add is a zip and some interfacing. They don't take much time to make and are perfect for gifts! Tamlyn from Sewn On The Tyne has a great make up bag tutorial on her youtube.

Sewing Machine Cover

I don't know about you, but my sewing machine is always covered in dust! My machine is sat out on my sewing table all the time so I should probably make myself a cover! Rosery Apparel has a great youtube tutorial for the cutest sewing machine cover that takes less than 10 minutes to make!

Scrunchies

scrunchies are such a fab way to use up your scraps. Even if you don't have enough of one fabric you can make patchwork scrunchies, so cute! Made Everyday have a great youtube tutorial for making your own scrunchies

Bucket Hat

Bucket hats are back in fashion so its the perfect time to practice your hat making skills! These are a great way to use up your scraps and such a fun and quick project to do! The Essentials Club have a wonderful bucket hat tutorial and Waves and Wild have a free pattern for bucket hats for babies right up to XL adults.

Fabric Crown

Now, this has to be the cutest thing I've ever seen! Waves & Wild have created this free pattern for fabric crowns for newborns all the way up to adults! Think I might need to make one for myself!

Hand Sanitiser Holder

and of course, it wouldn't be 2021 if we didn't mention hand sanitiser! I am always losing my bottles of hand sanitiser so this is a great tutorial to make a holder that you can attach to your keys or handbag!

Have you tried any of these? What other ways do you use up your fabric scraps? Let us know in the comments below!

Make sure to get your #recyclingremnants entries in by 11th September to be in with a chance of winning some amazing prizes!
