Sewing Stretch Fabrics with SewWithZo

Hi! I'm Zoe and you can find me on Instagram @sewwithzo! I'm super excited to be on the Stitch and Ink blog to talk about my new found love of stretch fabric!

I was kindly gifted some of the zebra jaquard to make a Tilly and the Buttons Bibi skirt, something I have never made before from the Stretch book. I had already purchased and used this fabric to make a Pearl cardigan and envisioned a matching skirt to complete the outfit!

This is the second project I have made from this book, the first being the Freya top. But, this was by no means my first venture into stretch sewing - no, 2022 is the year I am going to dub the 'year of comfort!'

I am *just* passed my 1 year sew-aversary and recently acquired a second hand overlocker which has changed my sewing game! I think the main reason I'm so obsessed with knit projects is how quickly they come together using an overlocker and also the ease of fitting - no darts! No pleats! No fuss!

Back to the Bibi skirt. Only a metre of fabric needed for this and it came together in less than 2 hours (or just under two episodes of Grey's Anatomy) and I'm OBSESSED! As I said above, it is so easy to fit and the fabric does the job for you!

I made a straight size 6 and the only adjustment made was to lengthen the pattern by approx 4 inches (I'm tall). I used the lengthen/shorten lines on the pattern for this.

I love this fabric and there is a huge selection of other jersey fabrics at Stitch and Ink. I highly recommend starting your journey into stretch sewing (you don't need an overlocker just a machine with a zigzag stitch) if you haven't already! I have no regrets!

Thank you for reading and thank you again Stitch and Ink for the gorgeous fabric!

Zoe xx
